Dogs are called “man’s best friend” for good reason. They are loyal and loving companions — most of the time. But any dog, given the right circumstances, can be dangerous — either to other dogs, pets of other species, livestock, or to humans. Some dogs, like the Great Dane or Tibetan Mastiff, for example, are dangerous because of their size. Others, such as the German Shepherd and the Pit Bull, can be trained by their humans to perform acts of protection or aggression that can injure the subject of their attentions.
Not every dog that is a member of these 10 breeds will be dangerous. For example, many families share their homes with dogs who belong to these breeds. A popular pet food brand regularly airs an ad that features a little girl and her devoted Great Dane, which sits patiently while his little owner dresses him in a tiara and pink feather boa and applies pink nail polish and lipstick to his giant paws and soft muzzle. But what would happen if that giant dog became excited about a cat running across his field of vision and he rushed to give chase, knocking the little girl down, even unintentionally? He may not have meant to be dangerous, but at that moment, he certainly was.
Here are the world’s 10 most dangerous dog breeds:
10. Great Dane
8. Pit Bull
6. German Jagdterrier
5. Doberman Pinscher
3. Alaskan Malamute
2. German Shepherd
